Microsoft's October Patch Tuesday, released on October 13, 2026, is the largest in the company's history. Cisco Talos counted 1,415 vulnerabilities addressed across Microsoft products, including 85 rated critical, 67 of them remote code execution flaws. Computer Weekly noted that the total exceeds the number Microsoft fixed in all of 2023, and that it shatters the previous record of roughly 1,000 flaws set just last month, which itself had passed a mark of a little over 600 set in July. By comparison, the October 2025 release addressed about 175 flaws.
Self-managed GitLab servers need an urgent update. On October 12, GitLab released emergency patches for a maximum-severity vulnerability in its CI/CD Regular Expression Compiler, warning that the flaw could allow an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code on the GitLab server itself.
Quantum computing company IonQ has agreed to acquire Elisity, an enterprise Zero Trust security firm, in an all-stock transaction valued at up to 1.3 billion dollars. The deal, announced Monday, includes up to 150 million dollars in earnout payments tied to the performance of the Elisity business after closing.
Microsoft is making its biggest push yet to run its own AI services on its own silicon. The company said Monday that its newest in-house accelerator, the Maia 300, will start rolling out next year, and that it expects to install its Maia chips at multiple-gigawatt scale across its data centers. The plan would make Maia the primary inference system behind Microsoft products — the hardware that answers every Copilot prompt, summarizes every Teams meeting, and generates every research response.
Solidigm, the NAND flash subsidiary of SK hynix, is adding a new original design manufacturer (ODM) site in Taiwan for data-center SSDs, according to industry reporting that surfaced October 5, 2026, from Seoul Economic Daily, Aju Press, and DIGITIMES. The company told customers via a product change notification last month; products built at the new site are expected to begin shipping in December under the same quality standards and terms as existing output.
Ubuntu 26.10, codenamed "Stonking Stingray," is scheduled for release on October 15, 2026, with nine months of support. Most enterprises will stay on the 26.04 LTS, but for users with the newest hardware — especially Intel's Panther Lake laptops — testing by Phoronix shows the interim release is worth a serious look.
On October 10, 2026, ransomware intelligence trackers reported that the group "Redact" had listed DexCom — the Nasdaq-listed continuous glucose monitoring maker with roughly 4.97 billion dollars in revenue and about 11,100 employees — on its dark-web leak site, alleging it exfiltrated 3.3 terabytes of company data. Treat that claim carefully: this is an attacker-side allegation only. DexCom has not publicly confirmed any incident, no regulatory filing has surfaced, and no independent forensic evidence has corroborated the listing.
At its Gemini at Work 2026 event on October 8, 2026, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian introduced the Gemini agent — which Google describes as "a single, universal agent for work" that answers questions, handles knowledge work, creates media, and writes and runs code. The agent runs on the web, iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, and the command line; inside Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Slack; and headlessly inside third-party applications. The pitch: one interface, one API, and an objective instead of step-by-step instructions.
