The Data-Center Power Crunch Is Hitting Chip Suppliers - Except Nvidia and Broadcom

Cartoon illustration of a data center plugged into a straining power grid beside chip packages.

Morgan Stanley warned on October 5, 2026, that a worsening U.S. data-center power crunch is now hitting the chip supply chain — but Nvidia and Broadcom are relatively insulated. The brokerage estimated last month that U.S. data-center developers face a 34 percent net power shortfall through 2028, equivalent to roughly 32 gigawatts, even after accounting for behind-the-meter generation and fuel cells.

Micron's Taiwan Union Votes to Strike as Memory Workers Demand a Bigger Share of the AI Boom

Cartoon illustration of a memory-chip factory with a picket-sign motif.

The union representing workers at Micron Technology's Taoyuan plant in Taiwan announced on October 7, 2026, that its members have authorized a strike over the company's bonus scheme. Of 2,258 eligible members, 2,012 cast ballots, with 1,994 voting in favor — roughly 99 percent of votes cast and about 88 percent of all eligible members. The vote gives the union the legal right to strike, though no walkout date has been set and the union said timing details were still under discussion.

Intel Hikes PC Chip Prices 10% Again as Memory Costs Bite

Cartoon illustration of a computer chip on a price tag surrounded by rising memory modules.

Intel raised prices on its PC processors by roughly 10 percent effective October 5, 2026, according to supply-chain reporting from DIGITIMES — the company's third processor price increase since late 2025. The move follows a roughly 10 percent hike in the first quarter of 2026 and a July round that lifted select consumer and server chips by amounts ranging from tens of dollars on everyday laptops to more than 1,000 dollars on some server parts.

Micron Sues YMTC, Alleging Poached Engineers Fueled Its 3D NAND Patent Campaign

Cartoon illustration of two giant memory chips facing off like chess pieces on a circuit-board chessboard.

Micron Technology has sued Chinese memory maker Yangtze Memory Technologies, or YMTC, accusing it of systematically poaching Micron engineers to obtain 3D NAND trade secrets and then using those engineers' patents to sue Micron. The 103-page complaint, filed September 15 in federal court in Idaho, escalates a patent war that has already spread across three continents.
